Because BARA researchers, as applied anthropologists, are more interested in offering practical solutions to complex environmental problems, BARA promotes a political ecology that considers carefully the nature and causes of environmental changes, the importance of meanings assigned to ecological systems More specifically, the track in Political Ecology prepares students for 1) graduate studies in environmental anthropology, human geography, environmental studies, environmental humanities, and the like; 2) jobs at various NGOs, state agencies, and international organizations that are focused on sustainability, climate change, and the social aspects of these two areas; 3) work with progressive organizations working on decarbonization, climate change mitigation and the like; 4) environmental Recent ecological anthropology studies have included political ecology, uniting more traditional concerns for the environment–technology-social-organization nexus with the emphasis of political economy on power and inequality seen historically, the evaluation and critique of Third World development programs, and the analysis of environmental degradation (Netting 1996:270). Description of the field. Political ecology analyses social forms and human organisation that interact with the environment. This burgeoning field has attracted scholars from the fields of anthropology, forestry, development studies, environmental sociology, environmental history, and geography. Its practitioners all query the relationship between economics, politics, and nature. Political ecology is the study of the relationships between political, economic and social factors with environmental issues and changes.

Political ecology anthropology

Political ecology is the study of the relationships between political, economic and social factors with environmental issues and changes. Political ecology differs from apolitical ecological studies by politicizing environmental issues and phenomena. The academic discipline offers wide-ranging studies integrating ecological social sciences with political economy in topics such as degradation and marginalization, environmental conflict, conservation and control, and environmental Working at the intersection between political economy, environmental anthropology, and multi-species ethnography, we are interested in a broad range of intellectual fields and political challenges – from global ecologies and studies of landscapes, to the significance of climate change and histories of labour, to environmental humanities and ecological activism. The program or movement now being called political ecology appears to have emerged in reaction to certain features of human ecology or ecological anthropology as it was practiced in the 1960s and early 1970s. In particular, there was a reaction to the neglect of the political dimensions of human/environment interactions.
